    Description

Here is a brilliant original exhibitors' pressbook for the American International release of one of the more endearing and early entries into the "nature strikes back" subgenre, Frogs (1972). Ray Milland's portrayal of mercenary fossil fuel magnate Jason Crockett brilliantly channels the Fox News watching oligarchs of today and adds gravity to a tale highly dependent on 1970s exploitation stereotypes. Basking in the saturated atmospherics are not only frogs but snakes, spiders and lizards, just in case not everyone in the audience would be intimidated by closeups of the cranky croakers.  Location shooting in Eden Gardens State Park definitely lends the film authenticity, no to mention the hundreds of creepy critters crawling all over the unfortunate cast of 1970s TV celebrities.
The celebrated poster image featured in the ad campaign is one of my favorites, and although I was not disappointed because I knew the frogs were not giant prior to seeing the film, I was left wanting for the "millions of slimy bodies squirming everywhere" as illustrated on the alternate ad mat!  Ribbeting pressbook comes with a great fold-out herald and two-color press-sheet insert.
